November 10, 2011 by Tail Waggin

We all know that sweet potatoes are good for humans, but did you know that they are also good for our pups too! We rounded up several sweet potato dog treats for you to make at home. Check them out, and if you have a recipe you would like to contribute, make sure to submit it!

One more thing…do you like chickens?  Not to eat, but to instead to raise for eggs (and yes, meat too!).  If so, make sure you take a peek at our other blog diychickencoopplans.com.  Back to the recipes now!

Sweet Potato Dog Treats from Mostly Vegan Always Vegetarian

MJ Hitchings of Mostly Vegan Always Vegetarian is not a fan of sweet potatoes, despite their great nutritional benefits. However, just because she hates them, does not mean she’s going to deprive her dogs of them, especially since they love them! Her recipe could not get any simpler. There’s only one ingredient – sweet potatoes! She bakes them for a long time on low heat. Here’s how to make her treats:

    • 1 to 2 medium sweet potatoes washed, but not peeled

Preheat oven to 270 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cut the sweet potatoes into very thin slices – 1/32 to 1/16 inches thick. The wider the slices the longer they will take to dehydrate, so you could go to 1/8 if desired. Hitchings recommends using a mandoline slicer, but it also can be done with a sharp knife.

Place the sweet potato slices in a flat layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 60 to 90 minutes or until crunchy. Let cool before serving to your four legged friends. (more…)

  2. Peanut Butter Dog Treat Recipes

Pups love their PB, there’s no doubt about it! We have several great peanut butter dog treat recipes to share with you, but before we do, don’t forget that you can share you favorite biscuit recipes with us by using the submission tab up top!

If you don’t feel like baking, dogs aren’t too picky! Once your peanut butter jar is just about empty, let them finish cleaning it out! We have included a cute video of Ferris doing just that! One word of caution, though…if you do give your dog a peanut butter jar, keep an eye on them! YouTube had several videos of pups with their heads caught in the jar (not funny).

Took 20 minutes, but licked it clean. OH YEAH!
